Improving the working life of LGBT people in Europe
A new EurWORK topical update aims to provide an insight into the views of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) individuals in the workplace. Based on information from Eurofound’s network of European correspondents, the report shows that discrimination is widespread, with many employees hiding their sexual identity in order to avoid discrimination in the workplace. While governments, social partners, NGOs and other actors have recently undertaken initiatives aimed at addressing the plight of LGBT people in the workplace, it appears that such actions are more prevalent in countries where the social climate towards LGBT is already quite favourable.
The report was recently presented to the European Parliament’s S&D group in advance of the adoption of their position paper on the subject, in light of the possible forthcoming Dutch Presidency conclusions on advancing LGBT equality at the EPSCO Council on 16 June next. Download the report here.
