Impacts of COVID-19 and labour market change central in discussions between Eurofound and Danish Ambassador
Ivailo Kalfin, Eurofound’s Executive Director, and Mary McCaughey, Head of Information and Communication, met with H.E. Uffe Balslev, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ireland, and Nikolaj Mølsted Andersen, Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Trade, at Eurofound in Dublin this week to discuss the Agency’s latest research; including on the economic, employment and social impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic across Europe, and labour market shifts related to the green economy and just transitions. The meeting came shortly after the launch of the fifth round of Eurofound’s Living, working and COVID-19 e-survey, which will document citizen’s concerns and ongoing challenges two years after the onset of the pandemic.
Ambassador Balslev and Mr Kalfin reflected on the close dialogue and cooperation between the Agency and the EU Heads of Mission as well as the tripartite representation of the Management Board, and how the COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the importance of Eurofound’s work on a regional, national and European level. They also discussed how, as a tripartite Agency, Eurofound is one of the leading knowledge centres on social dialogue in Europe, utilising its longitudinal research, databases and analysis to provide input to key EU-level meetings on the topic.
Ambassador Balslev and Mr Mølsted Andersen expressed appreciation for Eurofound’s research, ‘The foresight and scenario element that Eurofound is developing to complement its surveys, databases, analysis and research, will provide policymakers in the EU with important information on what might happen in certain areas, which will help them to make informed decisions for the future’, Ambassador Balslev said.
