Living and working in an era of disruption in one of the first public presentations of the results of Eurofound’s unique online Living and working survey which tracked the experiences of Europeans over the last two years - a period which saw a global pandemic, seismic shifts in the world of work, rising costs of living and now the war in Ukraine. No other organisation has taken the pulse of the EU over this period in this way. Eurofound Executive Director, Ivailo Kalfin will detail the impact this has had on different groups - on young people and women in particular - outline why trust between us all and in our institutions is more than just the soft stuff and why social media is not benign in this era of uncertainty.

Ivailo will be a guest speaker at the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) ‘Insights’ webinar series.

The consequences will be assessed by drawing on Eurofound’s surveys, which provide a unique snapshot of living and working in Europe over the past two years. The fifth round of surveys was completed in May 2022 and was based on responses from over 200,000 people. Eurofound’s findings give valuable insights into how living and working conditions have changed and on key challenges policymakers will need to address.

Trust in national institutions is falling: Data behind the decline

Trust in national institutions has declined across the EU over the past two years. Driven by increasingly difficult economic circumstances and unreliable news sources, even people who previously expressed higher trust levels – such as those in financially secure positions – have become less trusting.
