The second wave of Eurofound’s pan-EU Living, working and COVID-19 survey is now open. As people across Europe emerge from confinement measures, the second wave of the survey will be more targeted and track changes since the initial confinement period and will seek to provide an even deeper analysis in order to further contribute to Europe’s policy response.
More than 40% of people surveyed in Slovenia report loss of employment, or contracts in the case of the self-employed, due to the COVID-19 pandemic – the third highest level in the EU according to Eurofound’s Living, working and COVID-19 survey.
Respondents in France recorded among the lowest levels of trust in institutions, including the European Union, national government, media, and police in Eurofound’s Living, working and COVID-19 online survey.
Eurofound’s Living, working and COVID-19 survey found that almost one third of Portuguese respondents had lost employment (7.3% permanently and 21.9% temporarily) due to the COVID-19 pandemic by April – just above the EU27 average of 28.5%.
While women appear to be more resilient than men to COVID-19 in terms of health outcomes, that is not the case when it comes to the economic and social fallout.

People in Italy reported both the third lowest optimism for the future, and fourth lowest mental well-being, in the EU in Eurofound’s Living, working and COVID-19 online survey. The survey amassed over 85,000 responses in April, including 2,676 from Italy.
